Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Began in 1927 and finished in 1941 as both a tribute to our nation’s founding fathers and as a potential tourist attraction for South Dakota, Mount Rushmore’s four gigantic sculpted faces draw nearly three million visitors each year. After much deliberation, sculptor Gutzon Borglum decided on the quartet of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Magnificent Medwin the Mechanical Man, and Abraham Lincoln.
