Mt. Washington was a favorite choice for many artists seeking to capture the tableau of the Pittsburgh area. Here the artist has added in a horde of approaching monsters, most likely depicting the great 1866 Coal Hill Massacre. This print also marks the first use of the phrase, “When there is no more room in hell, the Dead will come to Pittsburgh,” coined by the Priest Walter J. Savini, who advocated that the constant onslaught was nothing less than a biblical plague.
