Main Street in Memphis

An 11 x 17 inch reproduction of a gem from the Detroit Photographic Company, enjoy this view of downtown Memphis.

Comes with this description:
This picture captures all the hustle and bustle of downtown Memphis in 1906. The new streetcar line sits in the middle of the street while restaurants & hotels line the avenue. In the distance, the Memphis Monster (or Tennessee Tortoise, depending on the locality) offers a wave as he crosses the street. The Monster was a mutated giant turtle who lived mainly in the swamps and marshes across the river, but often visited the downtown area and schools, thereby securing his reputation as a “friend to children.”
