In the original Godzilla mythology, King Ghidorah was a monster so evil, so bent on domination that it couldn't be reasoned with or placated. It posed such a threat that all of Earth's monsters and humans had to join forces and work together to defeat King Ghidorah and his minions. But of course that's just a silly monster movie, not real life!
Like many of you, I've been shocked and horrified by the last five months and fearful of what the future holds. But I also know that we are all in this together. By "we," I mean people who think that Trans people are people, that immigrants deserve a chance to live and work legally, that rapists and misogynists have no place in our government or life, that health care is a human right, that vaccines work & science is real, and that none of us are free until all of us are free.
Part of what is so interesting about the Toho monster movie mythology is how, over the course of many films, Godzilla went from a vengeful, godlike figure representing man's cruelty, to a stoic (if sometimes grumpy) defender of humanity. This Saturday June 14 is the national No Kings protest, for which I've made some artwork featuring the big guy, Mothra, and Rodan taking on King Ghidorah. Whether you're taking to the streets, donating to causes, making artwork, or supporting your friends & neighbors, I'm glad I'm in this fight with you. And as an expert in this area I can say with 100% certainty: Godzilla is on our side.
