These signs were produced jointly by Pittsburgh & Allegheny City as a handy way of posting in an area where the Living Dead had been sighted. By the 1840s, the local police force boasted a Living Dead Engagement & Destruction Force as city government realized that encouraging their citizens to dispatch of the rotting corpses was a public health concern.
