A Strange Place to Live In Vinyl Album

In honor of film director Edward D. Wood Jr (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, GLEN OR GLENDA, BRIDE OF THE MONSTER), Alternate Histories is thrilled to present an album inspired by Wood's work and life: A STRANGE PLACE TO LIVE IN.

Twelve tracks all licensed from the Numero Group's vast collection, starting with youthful innocence and romance, through b-moviemaking, hopes, dreams, and a final descent into alcoholism, this album tells the story of a man whose dreams outstripped his talent. The man who wore women's clothing and befriended many in LA's underground queer scene. The man who made PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.

Even more exciting, this album was made right here in Pittsburgh at Hellbender Vinyl, pressed on gorgeous Angora Pink vinyl, and each copy comes with an exclusive 5 x 7 Ed Wood postcard. Click here to read the album notes.

$5 from the sale of each album will be donated to the Trans Justice Funding Project, a community-led funding initiative founded in 2012 to support grassroots, trans justice groups run by and for trans people in the United States, including U.S. territories. This donation is made in honor of Wood’s groundbreaking GLEN OR GLENDA (1953), which challenged societal norms about gender, dress, and sexuality.
