These signs were produced jointly by Pittsburgh & Allegheny City as a handy way of posting in an area where the Living Dead had been sighted. By the 1840s, the local police force boasted a Living Dead Engagement & Destruction Force as city government realized that encouraging their citizens to dispatch of the rotting corpses was a public health concern. Even the best amateur militia lacked the leadership necessary to flank large masses of Zombies, although this point was vociferously argued by many farmers and hunters, who felt it was their God-Given right to take up arms against the Living Dead menace themselves.
