The Monongahela Incline (1905) Created as a way to help carry workers from the river valley (close to the docks, steel mills, and powerhouse) up to what was then called Coal Hill, the Monongahela Incline has been in operation since its completion in 1870. Today the Incline still carries both locals and tourists up to Mt. Washington, making it the oldest continuously operating funicular in the United States.
