Ed Wood and A VERY STRANGE PLACE

Ed Wood and A VERY STRANGE PLACE

For the end of 2024, I wanted to share something special. Earlier this year I released my second vinyl album, A STRANGE PLACE TO LIVE IN, music inspired by the life and career of director Edward D. Wood Jr. Putting together a compilation album like I've done twice now is both frustrating and fun.

Frustrating because you'll look through a record publisher's catalog and find the perfect song, only to have it not be available to license for your album.

Fun because then you have to push even deeper into the catalog and find things that you might not have seen at first.

Which is why I'm presenting A VERY STRANGE PLACE, a playlist of songs that I considered for the new A STRANGE PLACE TO LIVE IN album, yet weren't available or didn't fit in the tracklist once everything was done. For instance, I was heartbroken to have to exclude Kathy Heideman's "The Earth Won't Hold Me" from the album, but after a lot of searching, I think Elyse Weinberg's "City of the Angels" fits the same vibe and communicates something even more bittersweet.

This album especially was a challenge because I was constantly thinking about Edward D. Wood's life and career. What kind of music sells the vibe of a movie like PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE or NIGHT OF THE GHOULS? How do you communicate the idea of a dying dream, or an alcoholic death?

I hope you'll enjoy this bizarro version of the album at the links below; all of these songs are still pulled from the Numero Group catalog, and I'm grateful to them for all their help and guidance. And you can also listen to and buy A STRANGE PLACE TO LIVE IN by clicking here!
